Thankfully, it doesn't really apply anymore. I think many of you still have that perception of Linux. The geeks and power users in the house would call it fun (there is a certain thrill to installing a piece of software and everything it depends on with a single line of text)! For the average Windows user, it was a complete deal breaker. That required digging deep into forums and a heavy amount of googling. Issuing more text commands to install graphics drivers. You had to spend a lot of time in Terminal, issuing text commands to troubleshoot hardware issues. When I first dabbled with it years ago installation was relatively simple, but post-install configuration was a nightmare. Canonicalįrom both my research and personal experience, Linux usability has evolved substantially in the past 5 to 10 years. I could install Blender this way, but things are much easier now.
